Abstract Can one enter into an argument with one’s intellectual equals in good faith if regards the matter hand as already settled? Adopting such attitude looks very much like taking a dogmatic stance, that is closing mind to counterarguments advance. Dogmatism is, of course, vice. Moreover, dogmatism seems morally problematic, failing treat adversary due respect. While there clearly something correct about this line thinking—dogmatism, all vice, obviously be avoided—it also maintained that, properly understood, need nothing intellectually viceful engaging where subject settled. Related point, it contended someone who possesses virtue humility may well engage arguments just fashion. The upshot can consistently and argue both conviction humility.
